Our goal is to raise funds to help sustain and expand the quality programs, activities and supplies that our BMES Students and Teachers make use of every day. We also have ongoing efforts to provide programs ranging from creative academic programs to fun family events to behind-the-scenes administration. We’re grateful to all of you for helping to make these things – and much, much more – possible through your generous donations. Every donation, regardless of size, truly makes a difference!
Together WE make Black Mountain a special place for our children! Below are the programs and events BMES PTO sponsors throughout the year with your generous donations and dedication to our campus.
Arts Programs: Dance & Drama
Each year, our PTO raises money which exclusively funds our Drama and Dance Programs. These programs would otherwise not be possible within the school budget. We are committed to preparing our students for the global stage through advanced academic programs and extended fine arts opportunities in a public school setting. We take pride in our Arts Programs, and believe every student should have the opportunity to learn and grow through the arts at Black Mountain Elementary.
Teachers & Staff Appreciation
Our Hospitality Committee is dedicated to providing our BMES Teachers and Staff with amazing themed lunch buffet throughout the school year. They are also devoted to creating and organizing an amazing Teacher Appreciation week in the spring to remind all BMES Teacher and Staff how special they are to our Bobcat Family.
Spirit Night Events
These Family Fun Nights allow families to gather at family- friendly local businesses for dinner or other activities. These are excellent ways for students to see school friends and families to get to know each other outside of school. The businesses give back a portion of the proceeds from Family Fun Nights to BMES PTO.
Bobcat Spirit Store
Spiritwear gives student's a sense of belonging to their school community. Our Spirit Store Committee takes advantage of the opportunity to enjoy current fashion trends with designs & embellishments that capture the Bobcat Spirit. Show your school spirit by wearing our school colors- Navy Blue and Grey- on Fridays! Visit the Spirit Store on Fridays 8:40-9:00am.
Social & Community Events
Our PTO, Committee Members and Parent Volunteers work hard to create fun activities that the entire family can enjoy. We set the tone for a fun year with a calendar full of events ranging from family game nights, festivals, talent shows, and community activities. Upcoming events for the school year can be found here
Classroom Technology & Programs
Our PTO commit to technology investments that enhances the classroom teaching environment. We have purchased Chromebooks, charging carts, smart boards and classroom projectors for teachers to use in their classroom. These simple, secure, and shareable devices are used by teachers and students to create and collaborate. We've also provided enrichment programs and training like Project Based Learning programs, Defined STEM building license and onsite professional development.
Copy Cats
Our Copy Cat Committee is a team of volunteers working in the copy room each day for all requests of copies, binding, cutting, and laminating. Please consider helping our wonderful teachers by volunteering in the copy room. The teachers are always thrilled to have parent volunteers help them with the large amount of copying that is needed on a weekly basis.
Lunch/Recess Aide
PTO continues to provide requested funds for an additional Lunch/Recess Aid on our campus. Thank you to the wonderful staff that assist in supervising students in the cafeteria, on the playground, hallways and other common areas during lunch time.
Library Support & Book Fairs
Volunteers are the HEART of our school Library! The Book Fair held in the spring provides an opportunity for students and families to purchase books and support our Library's fundraising efforts to purchase new books each year. Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities to support the Library!
Field Day
Field Day is an annual day of outdoor sports and games for all grade levels. The PTO works in cooperation with our BMES P.E. teacher to host this event in the spring. Parent volunteers supervise the games, and the PTO provides ribbons for the student participants.
Performances at the Fine Arts Center
The show must go on! Theatre provides an outlet for making creative choices and brings play, humor, and laughter to learning. Our PTO and Volunteers enjoy supporting Dance and Drama performances at the Fine Arts Center. From stage construction to tickets sales we all show great pride in the value of the theater that engage, challenge and inspire our students.
Campus Improvements
PTO is very proud of the many school improvements we have funded over the years. We help with both big and little projects throughout the campus, indoors and outdoors. Simple things like painting the front office to providing new playground equipment are all possible because of direct donations, business partners and volunteers. Recently we installed a new Gaga Ball Court on the primary playground and a new Bike Town on the kindergarten playground. We are continuing to investigate further potential improvement to enhance the school’s appearance and create a more welcoming environment for the students. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering or have a landscaping company or construction company that can help with future projects.
School Safety
Along with BMES Administration, Teachers and Staff, our PTO promotes a safe and inclusive school environment. Investment purchases like visitor badge printers, walkie talkies, safety cones, crosswalk paint, and door barricade sleeves are all easy-to-use and effective safety tools for our campus. We encourage parents, students, educators, and community members to take action to keep children safe—in and away from school.
Other Services
The PTO supports many other behind the scenes administrative and school-related programs and services in the school and district-wide throughout the year, including: additional copier paper, bulletin boards, on-site support for teachers, AZ Merit Testing snacks, spelling & geography bee prizes, and a principal fund for the principal to use at their discretion. We share a common goal with our teachers - to ensure our children have the best, most effective and fun learning environment possible - by providing additional equipment, technology, educational resources, materials, classroom supplies, services and programs.
